An eleven year old Sookie, laid in her bed listening to Bon Iver as she woke up from her slumber. She sat up in her bed, and slowly stretch her sore muscles. She had just came back from Track Camp only a few days ago. She groaned at the realization that she had to get out of bed, even though it beckoned her to stay and cuddle in the warmth. She flipped the covers off her body unwillingly. Turning to her bed, she realized if she didn't make her bed her grandmother would have a meltdown. She ran her hands over her face for a good minute to wake up. When she went to go make her bed, it was already made. "What in the--" Maybe she had already made it? She was still half asleep, so it could be a very good possibility. Sookie walked down stairs still in her pajamas, to the smell of freshly cooked bacon. Her stomach growled in anticipation. She went to the kitchen where she found her grandmother at the stove, frying eggs. "Morning, Gran." Sookie watched her grandmother turn away from the stove with the pan and spatula still in her hands. "Oh Sookie! Good morning, Sweetheart! How did you sleep?" Sookie shrugged her shoulders as she sat down at their table. "I slept okay, I guess. My legs and arms hurt. I never knew that the track instructors here in England were so tough." Her gran laughed as she scraped scrambled eggs onto Sookie's plate. "Well sweetheart, you were the one who wanted to join your school's track team." Sookie laughed as she placed some bacon onto her plate. "Yeah, don't remind me." Sookie placed a fork full of eggs in her waiting mouth. She groaned in satisfaction. It was her first real meal in weeks. She kept placing piles of food into her mouth as she complimented her grandmother between bites. "This is good. So great. Oh my gosh! I've missed real food." Her grandmother, who also was still in her nightie, sat down across from her granddaughter with only a cup of black coffee. Her grandmother watched her with careful eyes, as she sipped her coffee. "So Sweetie? Are you ready for term?" Sookie pouted and shook her head. "No." Sookie placed her fork down, her appetite no longer there. "I have no friends. Why did we have to move away from America? I have friends there, Gran! I'm not the weird American there. I'm a normal girl there!" Sookie's grandmother came around the table to give her a hug. Gran stroked her granddaughter's hair and rubbed her back as her granddaughter started to cry. "I know Sookie. I know. But it'll be clear soon." Sookie's grandmother eyes brightened with a sparkle, as she heard the postal come through the slot in their door. She smiled and pulled back. "Why don't you go and get the mail, darling. Then we can finish talking. Okay?" Sookie pulled away from her grandmother with a sigh, "Yes, Ma'am." Sookie went to the door, and bent down to pick up the mail. She gathered it into a stack and walked back to the kitchen to hand it to her grandmother. "Here gran. I'm gonna go up to my room and get dressed." Gran nodded as she went through the mail. Gran stopped at a letter addressed to her granddaughter. "Ah... Sookie, darling? Come here for a minute." Sookie stopped halfway up the stairs and went back into the kitchen and stood by her grandmother. "Yes, Ma'am?" Sookie was handed a yellowish looking letter with her name on it.
To Ms. S. Gardner
43 High Street
Bookham
Sookie turned the letter over to see a wax stamp keeping the letter shut. It was a crest. It had 4 different types of animals on it, with a H in the middle. Sookie looked at her grandmother with a confused look. Her gran just shrugged her shoulders with a smile, and went back to her coffee. "Why don't you open it, Sook?" Sookie looked back to her letter and very carefully broke the seal, pulling out her letter. She unfolded it with care, the paper looked kind of fragile. The type of fragile that if you handled it the wrong way it would turn into dust. Gran just starred and smiled, almost laughing. "Go on, read it out loud!" Sookie took a deep breath as she looked over her letter.
"Dear Ms. Gardner,
We are pleased to inform you, that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Wi--" Sookie stopped reading. She read over the word. Her grandmother ushered her to keep going. Sookie pulled her eyebrows together in confusion. " Witchcraft and Wizardry." She set the letter down on the table, and turned to her grandmother who held a finger up to her lip smiling. "Gran? I'm a witch?"
