STUDENT APPLICATION
NAME : Emily-Amber "Ember" Astrid Stonefyre
AGE : 16
BIRTHDAY : February 28 2005
ORIENTATION : Bisexual.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS : Single
BLOOD STATUS : Pureblood
WHAT COLOR ARE THEIR EYES, HAIR, AND SKIN :
Ember is has very messy dark honey reddish-brownish hair that is always all over the place like it’s been swept around by the wind. It’s always in tangles as she can’t be bothered to brush it every single day. She’s much too busy training on her broomstick and attempting stunts that usually end up with her in the hospital wing getting her bones mended for the fifteenth time. Her eyes are a weird translucent deep blue, almost like that bit of sky over the mountains as it’s just gotten dark out but not quite completely. Her skin is quite pale on a regular basis, though not so pale that she looks like a vampire. She burns easily, hence, less tanning, more sunscreen.
WHAT DO THEY DRESS LIKE :
Ember’s style varies depending on her mood, but always includes an old fashion key hanging from a chain around her neck. She never removes it, no matter what. It is both a keepsake and a security blanket for her. A lucky charm of sorts. Most of the time she ends up in torn jeans (from her flying accidents) and band t-shirts though she will don the occasional skirt. She tends to stick to deeper colors, preferring them over bright ones. She has been known to wear pink or periwinkle every now and then when she’s feeling exceptionally girly, which is not very often. Oh, and blood. There’s typically some on her somewhere so often it’s almost an accessory. And bandages.
DO THEY WHERE MAKE UP :
Only if it’s a very nice occasion, such as a special ball or wedding. Otherwise, Ember prefers to go all natural with her face. Make-up takes too much time and effort to do every day or even once a week.
DO THEY LIKE THE WAY THEY LOOK :
Ember likes the way she looks most of the time, however, she is a teenage girl and she does go through stages of disliking certain parts of herself. Mainly her nose or eyebrows, though she never did understand why people need eyebrows in the first place. Sometimes she thinks her nose is too big or too round. Sometimes her eyebrows feel like caterpillars.
HOW TALL ARE THEY :
Ember stands at an average height of five feet and four inches.
DO THEY LOOK LIKE ANY FAMILY MEMBERS :
Yes. Ember looks very much like her mother, though they are about as similar in personality as a radish is to a watermelon. However, she got her father’s eyes, which she’s thankful for.
WHAT ARE SOME ATTRIBUTES THEY WISH THEY HAD IF ANY :
Ember wishes she could dye her hair. Her mother has forbidden it to the point of it becoming quite the argument at home. She’d also like a nose ring or a tattoo, but even thinking of asking to get those would have her grounded for a month.
WHAT IS THEIR BEST PHYSICAL FEATURE :
Ember’s best physical feature would have to be her eyes. They’re quite piercing when they look at you in anger, and fill with emotion very easily. She’s not one to hide her feelings unless she’s actually being shy or nervous, so her eyes are quite the story-tellers. They’re also fairly unique in color.
WHAT IS THEIR WORST FEATURE :
Ember’s worst feature would probably be her eyebrows. She dislikes them a great deal and sometimes wishes she could just get rid of them completely without looking like she’s in a constant state of shock. They grow faster than she can fix them and she usually ends up calling them the ‘caterpillars of evil.’
WHERE ARE THEY FROM :
Ember is originally from Ireland. Her whole family is pretty much consolidated in a tiny village called Whispering Hollows, on a street a bit out of town and far away enough from the Muggles to keep from breaking any statutes of secrecy. The population count is about two-thousand people altogether, though only about a hundred of them are part of Ember's family. It’s very quaint, very quiet, and very rural.
WHAT WAS THEIR PAST LIKE :
Actually christened 'Emily-Amber', Ember quickly made it known, by the time she was no more than a few weeks old, that the name did not suit her at all. She was too much of a spitfire, even as a baby, to be called something so pretty and girly. Her father affectionately began referring to her as his 'little glowing ember' and the name stuck, evolving quickly into just 'Ember', which she much prefers to be called. The only ones who ever refer to her as 'Emily-Amber' are her mother and grandparents, and that's usually only when she's gone and gotten herself into some trouble. Even her own cousins don't know her as anything but Ember, Emmi, or, affectionately, Emmi-bear. When she was eleven, Ember even wrote McGonagall back after she got her Hogwarts acceptance letter, begging her to not call her up to the Sorting Hat by the name in her birth certificate. Due to the child already having had quite a harrowing year, the Headmistress showed her soft side and agreed, thus, the name 'Emily-Amber' has not been so much as uttered at the school.
Ember up on a broomstick. As an accomplished broom maker, her father was always taking her out flying from the time she was born, which just about drove her mother insane. It started her love of flying before she could even crawl and as a result, she is always happiest on a broom. Ember showed signs of magic from a very young age, which pleased her parents a great deal to know they hadn’t given birth to a Squib. Not that they would have loved her any less though. Ember had a very happy childhood. She was always able to go outside and play due to there always being a relative near by, peeking out the window to make sure their nieces or nephews or grandchildren weren’t getting up to too much mischief. She was surrounded by cousins to play with and still enjoys spending time with them over the holidays. Most of them are all older than her and have already graduated, but she does have quite a few younger second cousins. The members of her family who were around during the war fought against Voldemort, not with him like some of the other pure-bloods. Ember was raised with the belief that everyone is equal, no matter the type of blood, or whether they've got magic or not.
While the relationship between Ember and most of her family is good, the one between her and her mother is rather strained. When Ember was little, her mother would put her in the prettiest little dresses only to have them come back torn or covered in mud. Then the disappointed remarks would start, and as Ember got older, the yelling, until her mother finally broke down and allowed her to just wear whatever she wanted. Ember couldn’t help it. She was never one of the sweet little princess types. She was always rough and tumbling around, wrestling with her male cousins like a pile of puppies until someone got hurt or they were called in for lunch. When she was four, her dad revamped her toy broomstick, resetting the safety limitations so she could go up to ten feet in the air and about thirty miles per hour. Ember's mother nearly killed him, but the kid took to it like a bird. When she was about seven, Ember finally got her own real racing broom, a Nimbus 2000 that belonged to her father. It’s not the best broom out there, but better than some of the other ones she could have gotten. Since then she’s been trying to master pulling tricks on it, sometimes overly zealous and dangerous ones. She’s never afraid of falling though, being quite daring and knowing that there are worse things than breaking your arm.
When Ember was about three years old, her father gave her an old fashion, metal key on a chain. He told her to keep it safe because it’s very special to their family, going to a locked cabinet in his workshop. She has never ventured into the cabinet, but she still never takes her key off. Especially as her father passed away from a sudden heart attack right before her eleventh birthday. He never got to see her get her Hogwarts letter, but she still wants to make him proud. He loved flying, so she does too and she figures that’s how she’ll prove herself.
Before his death, Ember's father was working on a broomstick to beat all broomsticks to be released by the company he worked for, Kamikaze Racing Brooms. It was a unique stunting broom, made with Ember in mind. It was finished and all ready to go, tested by him, and a little by his daughter who claimed it was too fast for at the age of ten, when he passed away, leaving no knowledge of how it was created behind where anyone can find it. ember thinks it might be in the cabinet, but she never told anyone that, actually a bit too fearful of the broom to imagine more of them being made. Her mother, Meghan, is a Herbologist, working hard in her gardens and greenhouse to provide potion ingredients to apothecaries and St. Mungo's. She also donates to the school if they need it, which is very rarely.
WHO ARE THEIR PARENTS :
Meghan Coughlan Stonefyre
David Stonefyre (deceased)
DO THEY HAVE SIBLINGS :
No.
IS THEIR ANY HISTORY OF MENTAL ILLNESS IN THEIR FAMILY :
Only old Uncle Milo who swears he sees little men running about his mug whenever he drinks.
WHAT DO THEY HATE :
Ember greatly dislikes the idea of blood statuses. They’re all human, why can’t they be treated as such? So what if some of them have pure blood or half blood or are Muggleborn? She’s also not fond of bullies or people who think their better than others simply because they’re alive or what family they were born into.
WHAT DO THEY LOVE :
Flying. Ember would probably go into a catatonic state if she were told she wasn’t ever allowed to fly again. She loves her family as well, especially her mother, despite their differences of opinion on how a young lady should behave.
WHAT CAN THEY NOT LIVE WITHOUT :
Ember cannot live without her broomstick or her key. If she could carry her broomstick with her or fly everywhere she would, but alas, she cannot. Her key is a kind of weird security blanket and brings her comfort when she feels anxious about anything.
WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON THEY HUGGED :
For who she can remember hugging, Ember would probably say her mother, though she’s most likely given a quite a few hugs out since she got back to school. She does love hugging.
HAVE THEY EVER LOVED ANYONE IN A PLATONIC WAY :
Of course. Ember loves her family and friends with a great deal of platonic passion.
HAVE THEY EVER LOVED ANYONE IN A ROMANTIC WAY :
No. Crushes yes, but never full blown, head-over-heels in love.
WHAT WAS THE MOST TRAUMATIC THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO THEM :
When Ember’s father died she was in a state of shock for quite some time. He was her very best friend in the entire world and understood her like no one else did. She had a very hard time getting past it, especially at such a young age. She still speaks to him sometimes when she’s alone.
WHAT WAS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO THEM :
There was this one time Ember managed to stand on her broom and complete half of a loop-de-loop before she lost control and landed in a tree. She needed more speed, but it was still pretty awesome. Oh, and meeting her best friend, that was pretty fantastic as well.
WHAT IS THEIR PERSONALITY LIKE :
Ember is a dare devil, at least on a broomstick. On the ground she’s kind and caring, always willing to stick up for a friend or punch some jerk in the face if need be. She’s never been very shy, always willing to make friends whom she stays loyal to once she’s made them. She enjoys a prank now and then, but doesn’t like pulling them if it’s at someone else’s expense emotionally. Simple things, like dousing them with glitter are okay. Embarrassing them in front of the entire Great Hall during dinner is not. She does tend to have a hot temper though and will pull out her wand, or fists, if provoked too strongly. She is especially sensitive to cracks about her blood status, family, or friends. She can also be kind of sarcastic and come off as a well, for lack of a better word, bitch if you don’t know her very well. She doesn’t like to show any weakness, so she’ll try to hide it behind anger or a fake façade of being fine.
HOW WOULD A STRANGER DESCRIBE THEM :
Some strange girl who probably doesn’t own a hair brush and flies around on her broom too much. Probably thinks it makes her look her or something.
HOW WOULD YOU, THE WRITER, DESCRIBE THEM :
Aside from being kind of a badass on her broom, Ember is actually incredibly sweet and loving towards the people she care about. She seems hard on the outside, but she’s actually really just an old softy who wants people to think she’s tough because she has difficulties handling emotional strife.
WHAT DO THEY DO IN THEIR SPARE TIME :
Ember tries to avoid doing homework as much as possible and will usually end up finishing it last minute if she can. Usually the night before it’s due. She prefers to just relax with her friends or fly around on her broomstick like a madwoman, trying out new stunts. She also enjoys pulling the occasional prank when she feels it’s warranted, usually on one of her friends in a way that’s not mean.
DO THEY HAVE ANY SPECIAL MAGICAL ABILITIES :
Nope, although, if blowing milk bubbles out one’s nose counted… Though, she isn't too shabby at Herbology, but that's just because of her mother. It's less magical and more knowledgeable though.
DO THEY HAVE ANY SPECIAL SKILLS :
Ember is really quite an exceptional flier. She took to it young and has been natural at it since.
