-FAMILY INFORMATION-

Where are they from? : The capital of Scotland – Edinburgh

Describe their past history : The Blackwell’s are a well-known Pureblood family that have been around for centuries with the same Pureblood beliefs that are instilled into all Pureblooded families. Gareth’s father was a supporter of Lord Voldemort during the First Wizarding War, as was Gareth himself, though he was only 15 years old. Garreth’s mother was indifferent about the whole ordeal and basically just followed whatever his father did. Garreth attended Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin where he met his future wife, Edith Morrison, also a Slytherin and a Pureblood. He inherited his family fortune at age 18.

After Hogwarts, Gareth began working at the Ministry of Magic as an Obliviator but eventually worked his way up the ranks to become Head of the Department of Accidents and Catastrophes. He was a dark wizard, though nobody at the Ministry knew. He kept his support of the Dark Lord a secret from everyone he worked with. He married Edith in 1994 and in 1997, their son, Liam, was born.

When the Dark Lord rose to power again during the Second Wizarding War, Gareth proudly followed after him, becoming a trusted Death Eater, though he somehow avoided ever taking the Mark. Because of this, there was no evidence of him ever being part of the Dark Lord’s army and the Wizengamot was forced to let him off with no punishments. But, as a result of the conflict, Gareth was fired from his position at the Ministry. Edith became ill a few years later and passed away, leaving Gareth to care for Liam. While they were a rich, Pureblood family, Gareth still wanted to ensure that his son was taught to be strong willed and smart. He taught Liam his beliefs and that the mixture of muggle and magic blood was an abomination but Liam never seemed to have the same feelings about it as him, which made Gareth resent his son. Gareth was very strict and stern, he hardly ever let Liam act out or be defiant or else it would result in a beating, just like his father had done to him. He believed that it taught his son obedience and made him stronger. He also had severe anger issues, especially when he thought about his late wife, and often took it out on his son.

For years, he did nothing but critique Liam on the way he was living his life, unhappy that he chose not to follow in his footsteps and become an Obliviator, but instead, an Unspeakable. While in the Ministry, Gareth despised the Unspeakables because of their arrogant personalities and he couldn’t believe that his son would want to become such a thing. Gareth finally decided that he needed a job before he wasted all of his family inheritance. He applied for a teaching position at Hogwarts, taking the only available one that interested him in any sort of way – Care of Magical Creatures. While he believed it was a foolish and basically useless subject, it would give him something to do other than wallow in his self-pity every day. And it would get him away from his son for a while.

Is there any history of mental illness in their family : Gareth’s mother had severe schizophrenia towards the end of her life as a result of always being beaten by his father while his father had terrible anger issues, much like his own.

-PERSONAL INFORMATION-

What do they hate? : Non-magic blood, morons,

What do they love? : He loves himself and that’s about it. He loved his wife before she died and he loved his son before he became a blood traitor.

What can they not live without? : He doesn’t need anything else to survive other than his wand.

Have they ever been in love? : With his wife, Edith and he knows he will never love again.

What is their most traumatic memory? : Watching his wife die. She was sick and there was no magic alive that could cure her. He was forced to watch her wither away to nothing and he wasn’t able to do anything to help her. He’s never felt more useless in his entire life.

What is their happiest memory? : The day he met Edith at Hogwarts.

Describe their personality : Gareth is a cold, harsh individual. He has no concern for others, only caring about himself and his wife. He used to care for his son but now feels betrayed by Liam as he has become a blood traitor in his opinion. He is set in his ways, refusing to give up on his beliefs that Purebloods are the supreme race and he despises anyone who thinks differently. He is arrogant and cruel and flaunts these traits to everyone. Gareth is a skilled liar, he had to be in order to get out of going to Azkaban – he had to make people believe that he had nothing to do with the Dark Lord, even though he was a trusted ally of the snake. He is extremely cunning and knows how to manipulate people to make them his own personal puppets, though he was never able to do this with his wife or his son.

What would be a stranger's first impression of them? : A hard-faced, callous man who is unchanging in his ways.

How would you, the writer, describe them? : Gareth is just as I described but with an underlying layer that is aching from the loss of his wife, his one true love, which only adds to his callous and cold personality. There’s also another part of him that is filled with anger because of his son’s betrayal to his family name and he can barely think of Liam without falling into a fit of rage.

Any special magical abilities? : Trained in nonverbal magic, Legilimency, and is extremely skilled at performing the perfect imperius curse.

Any special skills? : He’s pathological liar

Was school a good time for them? Describe their school life : He was a popular Slytherin, more of a leader than a follower and he only found company in those who shared his same Pureblood beliefs. He was an average student, receiving Os and Es in all of his classes, OWLS and NEWTS.

Did they have a lot of friends? : Yes, people listened to him and wanted to follow his example so he had a lot of ‘friends’.
