Using the application format as a placeholder until I've had a chance to sit down and do some more writing.
NAME :
Diedrick Falkenrath
AGE :
14
BIRTHDAY :
29 February 2008
ORIENTATION :
North? (Never considered it. Probably straight? Maybe bi. Also probably neutral or chaotic good.)
RELATIONSHIP STATUS :
Eww. No thanks. Relationships mean drama and drama means trouble.
BLOOD STATUS :
Full. (Of A positive). [Father from an old wizarding family, mother from mixed heritage... so... 3/4s?)
What color are their eyes, hair, and skin? :
Brown, brown, and brown. I mean white! Well still technically a shade of brown, but where is "Caucasia" anyways?
How do they dress? :
In clothes, usually. Fond of neutral colors, lots of browns and gray. Only ever wears copper or rose gold jewlery, like the copper armlet he almost always has on his left arm. Outside of his house robes, he's usually seen wearing denim cargo pants with a long-sleeve button up shirt un-tucked and the sleeve length dependent on weather.
Do they like the way they look? :
Most of the time. Except his house robes, or when his mom puts him in a suit for some formal occasion. Formal clothes, though sometimes comfortable, are horribly impractical. Or were you talking about personal appearance like hair and face and such? No scars, hair kept short so it's manageable, practical. Very practical. Very clean, despite the Dirty in his nickname "Dirty Deed"
Height? :
Slightly above average, though he hasn't grown much since he was twelve so he may end up at the low end of average if not shorter.
Do they resemble any family member? :
Spitting image of his great-great-great-great-great et cetera et cetera great Grandfather, for whom he was named, Diedrick Falkenrath. His portrait hangs in the family homestead in Germany. Though most of the men in the Falkenrath family look alike. Strong genes is the usual excuse.
What is their best physical feature? :
A strong nose behind which sits a square "Dutchman's Jaw" (thanks, opa...)
What is their most flawed physical feature? :
His left arm is almost half an inch shorter than his right, and a chunk of flesh is missing from the top of the same shoulder because he was attacked by an rabid fox (which he thought was a bad wolf) as a child.
Where are they from? :
Germany. Deutschland. Proud German family. His mother is British though, grew up in Cardiff.
Describe their past history :
"Dirty" Diedrick Falkenrath was always raised "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" (part of the family creed). He earned the moniker "Dirty Deed" because he could always be counted on to keep a secret, no matter how dirty, even if it meant an extra turn under the belt. That being said he would always push his friends toward honesty, as he believed it to be the best policy. He loves football, having played the game almost since before he was walking, and always roots for the fatherland. In primary school he grew frustrated with how long the class spent re-learning the same aspects of the subjects, but kept it hidden. He would help his friends, and really anyone that asked, by teaching them the little tricks he figured out for himself. He would then refuse praise and feign ignorance when questioned by his teachers about aiding them. Though quick to give an answer he always shied away from direct praise in front of others. He was raised to believe that you do what was right because it's right, not because other people will like you.
Diedrick is the first child of his family, and thought he was going to be an only child until his parents announced the pending arrival of his little sister Elsa while he was home on holiday. Though his first steps, first words, and first time getting in trouble were all on the family estate outside of Schwerin, he really considers his parents house in the suburbs of Cologne to be home. Never lacking for companionship despite being an only child, he quickly befriended the children in three of the houses immediately adjacent their own. The kids spent so much time together the parents one summer knocked down the fence between the yards to create a larger playing area for everyone involved, with a rotating agreement regarding lawn care.
His acceptance to Hogwarts came at a surprise to his parents, who received notice from his maternal grandparents of their deeds on his behalf. As he was born in London, and his mother was from Cardiff, he could technically claim dual citizenship in his adulthood. Diedrick didn't want to go, initially. It was Hannelore, one of the main four kids in the group, who convinced him to go. She said it would be a great adventure, and she wanted him to bring back stories of all the weird and wonderful things 21st-century Brits did.
Who are their parents :
Duncan Falkenrath, Ministry of Magic attache to German anti-terrorism unit GSG-9; and Dana Royal Falkenrath, a British transplant to Germany who works from home as a Customer Service consultant for the German equivalent of the Witchcraft and Wizardry Shopping Agency.
Do they have any siblings? :
One. Baby sister. Elsa Falkenrath, three years old. Calls him Deedee.
Is there any history of mental illness in their family? :
Unless you count megalomania, none that anybody talks about.
-PERSONAL INFORMATION-
What do they love? :
Football, chess, watching Dueling videos online, football, practicing the things he sees in Dueling videos online, hanging out with friends, camping, and football. And his falcon Riese, who he has tried for the last four years to convince his parents to use to bring him mail rather than one of the family owls.
What do they hate? :
Bees, too sweet food (especially milk chocolate), bullies, and when people expect things because you come from a certain family. "Oh you'll be a great auror someday just like your dad, uncles, grandfather, great uncles, great grandfather..." yadda yadda yadda.
Have they ever loved anyone in a romantic way? :
Romance causes drama causes problems. Besides, Hannelore is one of the guys! You don't risk ruining a friendship like that.
What's their most traumatic memory? :
The "bad wolf" incident, getting attacked by the rabid fox. He had trouble around dogs even for years afterward. A violent affair, not entirely sure his shorter left arm isn't because of the piece missing out of his left shoulder. Not to mention getting the rabies treatment as a child? Ouch. Lots of ouch. Weeks and weeks of ouch.
What's their happiest memory? :
Watching Riese hatch. His family raises falcons (name literally means "falcon keepers"), and he got to pick one of the hatchlings to be his for his ninth birthday. The two are nearly inseparable when he's home, aside from when Riese is hunting field mice on their property.
Describe their personality :
Unlike the typically solo falcons his family raises, Deed identifies more with a wolf or dog. His most fun is running as part of the pack, his circle of friends back home calling themselves the Schlammhunds (mud dogs). He never gives up his friends misdeeds, encouraging them to give themselves up instead, even though that has earned him extra discipline in the past. He does not believe his loyalty to be a form of dishonesty, as school administrators and disciplinarians in primary school often stated it was. Rather he feels that disloyalty to his friends would be the true dishonesty, and that standing up for them would lead them to be honest on their own (which they usually do fairly quickly to save him from trouble). He's a team player through-and-through. He'll take the lead if no-one else steps up, or if leadership flounders, but he rarely takes the job first instead giving others their chance.
Describe their personality flaws :
Diedrick may always be helpful, but his helpfulness often comes across as him trying to be a know-it-all. His friends know better, but he does get superior at times when explaining something he feels to be "simple" or "obvious" to someone else no matter who it is. Not to mention his quick temper when someone outright lies and he knows they are lying. He once nearly got expelled for smacking a substitute teacher in a rather convoluted incident involving a classic schoolboy prank and him being blamed by said substitute simply because he wouldn't fess up about the true culprit (it was Hannelore).
What would a stranger's first impression of them be? :
Quiet? Stoic maybe. Or quite possibly angry. He jokingly calls people racists for not knowing what a German face looks like when they ask him about his apparent "resting bitch-face" as an American exchange student referred to his natural expression. He is quiet though, until he finds something to talk about. Good luck shutting him up once you strike common ground.
How would you, the writer, describe them? :
Diedrick is a character that had never entered into my head until the moment I was sorted into Hufflepuff by Pottermore. He mirrors qualities of myself and some of my friends in my youth, and I expect him to get into all kinds of trouble. His quiet slow-to-trust nature makes him an appropriate background character who may have only really entered into the social scheme of Hogwarts in his fourth year... but like my own characters, once the name and the face were in my head the rest wrote itself, flowing from my fingertips like ink from ten little fountain pens. Not saying that I'm trying to place him there, but he's a brand new character. A variety of flaws I haven't written for before.
Any special magical abilities? :
Quick wand movements, silent incantations. Can't do potions for crap though.
Any special skills? :
Lateral thinker and problem solver, excellent teacher once he has himself a grasp on the subject (though boasting only moderate chess skills himself he taught the eventual champion of his fifth-year chess club in primary school how to play).
