Roxy fought off her tears, let go of Tommy's hand, sat up and twisted around on the blanket so she could see his face. She'd be damned if she was going to tell him something like this and it not be face to face.
"It's my brother. You know how obsessed he is with becoming an Auror? Well, he's...he's taken it way too far. On break, he snuck out of the house one night, and I followed him. I wanted to get him in trouble, that kind of thing...it was silly, I know. He walked through Diagon Ally and headed straight to Knockturn. I've never been in there, but I thought Fred could be in trouble, so I followed, despite Mum and Dad forbidding it. I lost track of Fred for a bit, took me a good 30 minutes to find him. It's very confusing in there, I think on purpose. Anyway, when I found him, he was...he was talking with a cloaked man. I couldn't see his face, but he called my brother 'Johnathan'. The cloaked man was saying something about a price to be paid, but I couldn't hear all of it. Before I could do anything or get to them, the cloaked man cast a spell at my brother. It was Dark Magic, Tommy. I could feel it. The spell hit Fred, and he was...he was screaming until he threw it off with some counterspell I've never heard of. Fred looked at the other guy and just said 'Again'. I almost ran away. I'm not like my brother, I'm not a duelist, but this was for Fred. I walked over to them and asked 'Johnathan' what the bloody hell he thought he was doing. The cloaked man Disapparated immediately, and Fred, he...he got really angry. I told him he ought not to be messing around with Dark Magic, and I threatened to tell dad, and he asked me not to, that it was part of some dumb training program he had. He said...he said he'd never be able to learn to fight against Dark Magic if he hadn't ever learned any. I told him he was nuts, but he wouldn't listen. In the end, he promised not to do it again, but I don't believe him. He's too bleeding obsessed for his own good. He's messing in things that could hurt him really badly, and I don't...I don't know what to do."
Tears had started up again from her eyes by the time she'd finished, which she ignored as she spoke.
