Arithmancy Class 1

Nicki looked up from his papers at the greeting from his student and smiled at the girl. She was a lovely thing, full of enthusiasm for a subject Nicki felt didn't at all receive enough adoration at all.

"That's wonderful to hear Ms. Black." The professor replied adjusting his glasses, crooked grin still plastered to his face. Nicki always took the time to memorize his students ahead of time. He then folded his hands and cleared his throat.

"Ah seven," He sighed whistfully, "Peaceful and affectionate in nature. But  . . . observant." He said mildly and unbiased as he did when describing all life path numbers.

"It will be a pleasure to have you in class. Oh wait seven!" Gasped the professor before opening a large drawer from his old desk. He returned with a circular candy wrapped in colorful foil.

"For the missed birthday." He said extending the offering.


Sophia Black

Anders entered class, noticing the only girl in the room and nervously diverted his shy gaze, clearing his throat as he took his seat near the front. The tawny-haired Ravenclaw allowed his eyes to absorb the chart located on the black board, wondering what they'd be tasked with today.

Isaac sauntered into the Arithmancy classroom, satchel slung lazily over his broad shoulder and navy and bronze tie loosely undone. Trailing closely behind him was his cousin, Scorpius Malfoy, looking far more neat and polished, who took a seat directly beside him near the back corner of the nearly deserted classroom. The elder blond swept his gaze across the space, recognizing instantly one of his distance relatives through Scorpius' side of the family, his grandmother and great aunt being descendants from the notorious Black family line.

"Oi, Black!" The haughty pureblood called out obnoxiously across the classroom, not giving a rat's arse if the professor over-heard him, he knew how to sweet talk his way out of most sticky situations, feigning politeness and remorse. His penetrating, blue eyes narrowed upon the girl, a scowl tugging down on his lips as if it literally pained him to behold her.

"Fantastic job you're doing, being a disgrace, that is. You don't deserve such a respectable surname, you know, and I'm afraid that it literally puts a sour taste in my mouth witnessing just how much it's clearly being wasted on rubbish like...you." He spat out cruelly. Beside him Scorpius snickered quietly to himself.

Sophia Black

Scorpius listened as his elder cousin began immediately egging on one of his distant blood relatives, Sophia Black. He himself hadn't really ever made a solid effort to verbally acknowledge the Hufflepuff's existence one way or the other, not wasting his breath or time teasing her. The only girl Scorpius had ever been downright nasty to was Rose Weasley, but time had drastically changed that arrangement and well, if he could snog a Weasley, nothing else seemed to phase him at this point. Wait, that sounded all wrong in his head, causing guilt to twist and pull at his gut. It was a complex relationship to navigate, being raised to be completely disgusted by someone and then suddenly finding yourself becoming steadily more and more attracted to them, not just their physical appearance but their intellect and personality as well, the complete and total package. Scorpius was broken from his train of thought regarding Rose when Isaac carried on and despite how open-minded and accepting he had become as of late, Scorpius couldn't help himself from chuckling mildly at the sheer nerve of his elder cousin. He sure was a ballsy fellow.

Scorpius at least possessed enough sense to attempt to hide the laughter a little, by stifling his mouth with the sleeve of his robe, not for Black's sake of course, but for the Professor's. In all his courses he did his best to be a decent, respectable pupil, the type to subtly hiss insults rather than bellow them out within obvious hearing range of a Hogwart's staff member. Isaac was being foolish, behaving so proudly, he'd surely land himself a detention if he didn't shut his mouth soon. Too arrogant, that one. Thought Scorpius in amusement, a smirk still plastered to his face as he watched coolly the exchange between them, then Rose put her two cents in, casting him a stern look.

Anger grew within Scorpius at her words, couldn't she tell he was trying? This was the most laidback and tolerant he's ever been, it wasn't as if he had chimed in like he normally would, he had kept his mouth shut, for her sake as well. Scorpius glared fiercely at the haughty witch, all traces of previous amusement gone.

"Sit your arse down, mate." Commanded the more sensible of the two cousins, reaching up and tugging roughly upon Isaac's sleeve before he turned his steely disposition upon the Gryffindor.

"Funny Rose, I was beginning to think that you fancied me." Scorpius bit out cryptically, to Isaac it would sound merely like a statement drenched in heavy sarcasm but to Rose, she would know that she had just deeply offended him, which was a mistake.

"Since when do you call her 'Rose'?" Isaac chimed in, a look of confusion written on his features as he stubbornly remained standing and peered down at the younger lad in bafflement.

Scorpius' grey eyes widened by a fraction, immediately regretting his slip-up but he played it off coolly. "I don't, just slipped out is all..." He defended as casually as possible, not meeting the gaze of either his cousin or Rose, irritated with the pair of them at that moment. He instead busied himself with rummaging in his bag for his textbook, a quill, ink and a spare bit of parchment.
