Hello! Welcome to Geminio! If you're new to roleplaying you might have a few questions. This thread is here to help clear some things up. If you still have questions Admin Rachael, Kool Uncle Cris, Bri, and Moderator Rosie can answer any of them. You can also contact any character the staff controls, though a immediate reply is less likely.
Thanks for joining!

What is Roleplay?
From Wikipedia
"A role-playing game is a game in which the participants assume the roles of characters and collaboratively create stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, they may improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games.
Role-playing can also be done online in the form of group story creation, involving anywhere from two to several hundred people, utilizing public forums, private message boards, mailing lists, chatrooms, and instant-messaging chat clients (e.g., MSN, Yahoo!, ICQ) to build worlds and characters that may last a few hours, or several years. Message boards such as ProBoards and InvisionFree are popularly used for role-playing. Often on forum-based roleplays, rules, and standards are set up, such as a minimum word count, character applications, and "plotting" boards to increase complexity and depth of story.
There are different genres of which one can choose while role-playing, including, but not limited to, fantasy, modern, medieval, steam punk, and historical. Books, movies, or games can be, and often are, used as a basis for role-plays (which in such cases may be deemed "collaborative fan-fiction"), with players either assuming the roles of established canon characters or using those the players themselves create ("Original Characters") to replace—or exist alongside—characters from the book, movie, or game, playing through well-trodden plots as alternative characters, or expanding upon the setting and story outside of its established canon."
What Do I Do First?
1. Read The Rules. This is one of the most important steps. At Geminio we try to give creative freedom, but there are a few rules and guidelines to follow. The rules can be found HERE.
2. Create Your Character. There are several different types of characters you can make. Each has pros and cons. it's up to you to decide which you choose.
- Student
[li]Professor[/li]Professors also have plenty of opportunity on the site. They can select a job from the list of available staff. From here they can start and teach classes for their subject. The professor template is here.
[li]Creature[/li]The final option is creature. This is the least defined group. There isn't much regulation going into creature's as of now, though you'll be expected to behave as civil as possible. If you need help with your creature, Harry Potter Wiki has a lot of information pertaining to the creatures we have here. These creatures include veela, centaurs, ghosts, werewolves, and vampires. The application is here.[/ul]
Each type of character is encouraged. If you wish to claim a canon character, please check out the list. Please PM a staff member so we can make sure the character is crossed off the list.
3. Claim A Celebrity. After you have been approved and put into a group you have to continue setting up your character. The celebrity you choose will represent your character's appearance. It should resemble the description in your application. If a celebrity is already taken, you will not be able to duplicate them. The only instance where one celebrity can be used for multiple people is in the case of identical twins or triplets. The list of unavailable celebrities is here.
4. Begin registering your character. This step is just some minor housekeeping, though it makes a big difference. Make sure you and your characters are put under The Writers page. You may also register for a wand.
5. Create Your Character Profile. The character profile is used for other members looking to roleplay with you. It gives an overview of your character that you can then tag in threads, as well as your userprofile. You may create your character's unique profile here. Feel free to use this template as a helpful guideline.
6. Register for Classes, Clubs, and Activities. You may now register your student for classes, clubs, and other activities. You may also join your house quidditch team.
7. Begin Roleplaying! There are various ways to find people to roleplay with. There are open threads, plot requests, and private messaging. The open threads can be joined by anybody. Plot requests are made by members who want their character to participate in a specific type of plot. PMing is used by members who find a character they may be interested in roleplaying with. They can then shoot a message to the other member asking if they would like to join them in a thread. Each works in different ways, but all are very useful.
