The Forbidden Walk

The spell pooled from his wand, cocooning them in a bubble of white light. Sage couldn't see any of their classmates, the only thing that flickered into view were the stray pixies making their escape from the forest. Spencer was even paler in the silvery glow and Sage searched his face for signs of panic. He seemed alright, better than she thought he would be, but he didn't let go of her. Instead, the boy pulled her along and out of the darkness, into a small clearing. Sage's heart was thudding a slow rhythm in her chest, and all her focus was directed at the Ravenclaw. She was better now they were in the light, but the walk was seeming like the worst idea she'd ever had. Her Mother used to tell her stories about muggle Halloween walks, where things jumped out but could never touch you, she should have known a wizard walk wouldn't stick to those rules.
She frowned at the boxes surrounding them, curious as to what was inside. The pair stood in front of one and heard the click of locks. A fog of black spewed from the chest as it creaked open and Spencer's fingers tightened around hers. Boggarts?[/b] What was Longbottom thinking? There were first years in the woods who hadn't learned to defend themselves against creatures so terrifying. Spencer was clenching his wand and he hissed at her, "I don't think I can do this again."
It was getting closer to them, already thickening as it swirled around the Ravenclaws feet. More darkness, but this time it would latch onto the root of his fear and torture him with it. Sage knew it was supposed to be a game and no harm would come to him, but every instinct she had lurched in her chest. She clenched her jaw and released his hand, pushing Spencer out of the way and forcing the boggart to turn its attention to her. She didn't want Spencer to see her fears, or have to endure it herself, but Sage wasn't prepared to see the look on his face for a second time that night...or ever again. An odd thing happened as she watched the boggart shape itself into the thing she feared, Sage relaxed. It was just her, Spencer was out of the way, her family weren't here, there was nobody else in the wood to worry about. It made Sage calm down, and the panic melted away into the ground. She knew what this would be, her Mother dead at her feet, she'd imagined it herself a thousand times, and she could deal with it.
The Boggart twitched and solidified into the form of a little boy with faded hair and her wide eyes, sitting on the floor hugging his knees. "Bobby?" Sage breathed, forgetting for a moment that her brother was miles away safe at home. The image of her brother was crying and shaking, swaying back and forth like a rocking horse. What was going on? Sage just stared at him, trying to decipher what this meant. The image grew and her eyes swiveled to the bodies around him, her Mother, her Father, her Aunt, and herself, all dead. Sage felt the pain press up in her throat and lifted a hand to her mouth, smothering the sound before it escaped. She tore her watery eyes away and found Spencer who was still standing away from her. He was reality, this wasn't.
Sage closed her eyes and pointed her wand at the boggart, "Riddikulus" she stammered. At once the bodies jumped up laughing, wiping off the blood from their faces as if it was nothing more than a Halloween costume. Bobby frowned and stared at Sage, before fading into mist and returning to its chest. The lid slammed and the forest fell silent once more. Sage stood as still as stone, staring at where her brother had been. She glanced at the Ravenclaw and smiled fleetingly, forcing the hollow pit inside of her back into its box where it belonged. "Some walk, hey?" She said, chuckling darkly. This wasn't going to consume her, she refused to let a creature with no heart drag her down.
