The Black Lake This is a large body of water located to the south of the castle. It is about half a mile in diameter and the Hogwarts plumbing network drains into it. It is known that a number of things live in this lake, including merpeople, grindylows, and, of course, the Giant Squid. Students often enjoy sitting by the shores in warm weather beneath the shade of an ancient, weeping willow tree and sometimes swimming. In winter months, students can ice skate on it, though beware not to drift too far out into the middle where the ice is weakest. |

Greenhouses Located here is the Herbology Professor's personal office. However, students are most welcome to use the greenhouses at any time if they wish to study the various plant specimens or simply have a look around at all the lush, green foliage. |

Care of Magical Creatures The Professor's office is located in Hagrid's abandoned hut. Outside of the cabin, near the treeline of the Forbidden Forest, Care of Magical Creatures lessons are held, teaching students how to approach, handle and care for various magical animals. |

Graveyard Located here is the tomb of Albus Dumbledore, previous Headmaster of the school. This is a depressing and somber graveyard home to many other victims taken by the Battle of Hogwarts fought in 1998. |
