Duane Luco Davis
"Losers are people who are so afraid of not winning that they don't even try."
16 - November 8th, 2004 - Straight - In a Relationship with Eveleen Swan- Half-Blood
Wand: Hornheam and Unicorn Hair, 12 inches.
Hornheam Wand Wood: "Hornbeam a talented witch or wizard with a single, pure passion, which some might call obsession or more kindly put an aspiration. Hornbeam wands adapt quickly and will become so personalized, so quickly, that other people will find them extremely difficult to use even for the most basic of spells. Hornbeam wands absorb their owner’s code of honor and moral compass and will refuse to perform acts - whether for good or ill - that do not equate with their master’s principles. “A particularly fine-tuned and sentient wand."
Personality: Terribly quiet to the point of being antisocial. Pessimistic, often brooding and moody. A kind heart beneath the cold surface. Brave but only in drastic situations where he is forced to act, otherwise Duane is more of a stand back in the shadows kind of guy and would rather not be the hero who saves the day. Extremely ambitious to the point of obsession, his greatest ambition is to be a Herbologist and he is a genius when it comes to magical plant specimens, he's read every book he could find on the subject and has much of the information memorized therefore he is highly intelligent though not one to boast of his brightness. He values intellect, ambition, and justice.
What He Loves: Muggle music, specifically 90's grunge music. Duane especially enjoys a band called The Pixies. The occasional glass of firewhiskey at The Hog's Head in Hogsmeade, reading and studying in the library, researching Herbology, and a secret love of gardening.
What He Hates: Flashy and flamboyant people, incessant chatter, psychiatrists, though mainly his father and performing magic in general since he is bloody horrible at it.
History: Duane's mother, Romona Davis works for the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes in the Ministry of Magic and his father, Adam Davis works as a psychiatrist at St. Mungo's in the Janus Thickey Ward. Due to his father always attempting to psycho-analyze him, Duane became mute as a child in an attempt to prevent his father from 'getting inside his bloody head' and eventually Adam Davis gave up in helping his antisocial and peculiar son, diagnosing him with possible depression but most likely a Wrackspurt problem, invisible creatures which float into a person's ears, making his or her brain go fuzzy.
Favorite Subjects: Herbology and Potions
Least Favorite Subjects: Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Transfiguration and Divination which he finds unbearably barmy.
Parents: Adam and Romona Davis.
Siblings: Duane is an only child, for he was an accident. Duane is the cousin of my other character, Mackenna Radley through his father, Adam Davis, Mackenna's mother, Amelia Davis is Adam's younger sister. Adam is the responsible, golden child who seems to have it all together. Amelia on the other hand was a wild child, free spirit who got knocked up, unwed by a bloke by the name of Demarcus Radley who landed himself up in Azkaban leaving Amelia to raise Mackenna alone as a single mother. Mackenna and Duane are not very close, only seeing each other and interacting in forced family gatherings such as holidays and birthdays. Adam and Amelia share a dysfunctional, strained relationship even well into adulthood, pinning the cousins against each other as they each bad mouth the other sibling.
Favorite Spell: Lumos and Aguamenti (Water making spell)
RP SAMPLE:
Duane sat, his back propped against the ancient willow tree overlooking the glistening Great Lake. In his large, pale hands were a herbology book and he was currently absorbing all the facts he could regarding a dangerous but fascinating species of magical plant called a Fanged Geranium. It's fangs were used in many potions and cooking. The Fanged Geranium was a moody specimen, known to bite it's gardener if not taken care of to its high standards. Duane hadn't pulled his dark, narrowed gaze from the page in over an hour, completely absorbed in his research. Suddenly, to his dismay, the Giant Squid decided at that particular moment to flop one of its ginormous tentacles against the surface of the water creating a magnificent splash that reached him at his spot near the shoreline, completely drenching him in cold water and turning the pages of his textbook soggy. 'Bloody fudging hell!' Duane cursed loudly, something that was uncharacteristic for him as he was normally a quiet boy. He glared daggers at the retreating tentacle as it disappeared beneath the lake's surface once more before gathering his damp book and satchel and retreating to the dry castle to ask a professor to perform a drying charm on his beloved book. Duane was rubbish when it came to charms and really any magic in general, preferring to use his hands and cut up and gather potions ingredients or tend to temperamental plants. Sometimes Duane wondered how he was even a wizard to begin with.
