Damian Alexander Scamander
"It is our choices that show who we really are far more than our abilities."
11 - January 6th, 2010 - Has yet to realize he is gay - Half-Blood
Wand: Alder and Phoenix Feather, 9 1/2 inches.
Alder Wand Wood: "Makes for an unyielding wood, though its ideal owner is not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likeable. Whereas most wand woods seek similarity in the characters of those they will best serve, alder is unusual in that it seems to desire a nature that is completely opposite to its own. When an alder wand is happily placed, it becomes a magnificent and loyal. Of all wand types, alder is best suited to non-verbal spell work, hence comes its reputation for being suitable only for the most advanced witches and wizards. Alder is also excellent for protection against outside forces, and when combined with phoenix feather, is a suitable match for a wizard who will achieve greatness."
Personality: Damian is a shy and quiet boy, unlike his outspoken and flamboyant father. He is very ambitious and studious, already knowing at the young age of eleven that he would like to become a powerful wizard when he grows up. He is very kindhearted and brave despite his cold and aloof exterior. Damian has learned to suppress his true nature due to his fear of displeasing his overbearing father. He is nervous to attend Hogwarts this year, dreading the sorting ceremony because he is afraid he will not be sorted into Gryffindor like his father and therefore will disappoint him. Damian has a negative view of Gryffindor due to his father, who represents to the extreme the houses negative characteristics of self-righteousness and pride, considering himself better than others and constantly in the limelight, seeking fame and glory. These are the qualities his son does not have, for Damian is much more humble and down-to-earth, lacking his father's prejudice and arrogance.
He Loves: Damian enjoys reading about all things magical, particularly magical creatures and hopes to become a brilliant Magizoologist like his ancestor, the famed Magizoologist, Newton Scamander, author of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. He also likes playing wizards chess and Quidditch.
He Hates: Prideful people, glory seekers, people who believe they are superior to others, and bullies.
History: Damian is the only son of Orion Scamander, an open Harry Potter and Ministry supporter who despises all Death Eaters and Purebloods. Damian feels torn between his fathers firm beliefs and his own, in Damian's opinion a lot of neutral purebloods haven't done anything wrong and he feels Orion is just seeking political leverage by playing on people's dislike of purebloods at the moment in order to get them all out of the Ministry of Magic and eradicate them completely in the Wizarding community through Ministry ordered Marriage Contracts. Damian has an older sister, Isadora who attended Durmstrang and graduated this year, though the Scamander family lives in England. Their mother, Anastasia died from unknowingly coming into direct contact with a heavily cursed artifact that Orion had intended to gift to politically powerful, pureblood, Lucius Malfoy many years ago shortly after Damian was born. Wracked with guilt and grief, knowing that he was responsible for the death of his wife, Orion became even more obsessed with the eradication of purebloods completely, blaming them for Anastasia's death and causing him to literally go mad with vengeance. His only justice, in his mind, is an equal world of mixed blood purity.
Family: Father, Orion Scamander, mother, Anastasia Scamander (deceased), and elder sister, @isadora. Orion is the living grandson of the deceased Magizoologist, Newton Scamander and younger brother of Rolf Scamander, Luna Lovegood's husband. Luna and Rolf's twin sons, Lorcan Scamander and Lysander Scamander are Damian and Isadora's first cousins.
Extra: Damian is very close to his elder sister, Isadora and due to the eight year age difference sees her as an important maternal figure in his life. Isadora and Damian keep each other pure at heart, helping one another possess the inner strength needed to endure their lunatic father without losing themselves to his spiraling madness. They both disagree with Orion's strong and obsessive beliefs and confide in each other things in which they cannot express to their father.
Roleplaying Sample: Damian stood eye level with the counter, standing on the tips of his toes to peer over the barrier and watch as Mr. Ollivander plucked a series of three, rectangular boxes coated in a thick layer of snowy dust from off of the shelves and presented them to the young wizard. Damian beamed with excitement, it wasn't often that he felt so elated and he cherished the honorary milestone of finally becoming old enough to purchase his first wand. Mr. Ollivander handed him the first one, a pale and sturdy wand that Damian flicked through the air in a long, sweeping motion. Suddenly many of the boxes stacked neatly on the shelves behind the counter ejected themselves violently onto the floor as if an earthquake had just struck the small shop.
'Not a match it seems. Not to worry, here, try another.' Encouraged Mr. Ollivander, his cloudy, blue eyes meeting Damian's clearer ones. Damian did as the shopkeeper instructed and took the second wand, an ebony one, longer and thinner than the previous and gave it a hesitant, much less enthusiastic flick. Warmth spread instantly through him, beginning in his chest and spreading out to tingle pleasantly through his limbs, the sensation was peculiar but somehow familiar too, as if the young wizard and the wand had met before, perhaps in a distant, prior life.
'That'll be it then! Interesting, very interesting...' Pondered the Wandmaker. 'I wasn't sure the Alder wand would suit you, it is a very unyielding wood, yet I have discovered over the years that its ideal owner is not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likable. When an alder wand is happily placed, it becomes a magnificent and loyal helpmate. Of all wand types, Alder is best suited to non-verbal spellwork, hence comes its notable reputation for being suitable for only the most advanced witches and wizards. You m'boy, are very lucky. I foresee greatness in your future.' Said kindly Mr. Ollivander, causing Damian's chest to swell with fierce pride for his amazing, new wand, Alder and Phoenix Feather, 9 1/2 inch, unyielding.
