Philo Nicholas Greene
"You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body."
16 - September 7th, 2005 - Straight - Taken by Ava Winters - Muggleborn
Wand: Hazel and Unicorn Hair 11 1/2 inches
Hazel Wand Wood: "Hazel is a sensitive wand, often reflecting its owner’s emotional state, and works best for a master who understands and can control their own emotions well. Others should be very careful handling a hazel wand if its owner has recently lost their temper, or suffered a serious disappointment, because the wand will absorb the negative energy and discharge it unpredictably. Hazel wand are known to be capable of outstanding magic in the hands of the skillful, and is so devoted to its owner that it often ‘wilts’ (stops working) at the end of its master’s life. Interesting fact, “hazel wands also have the unique ability to detect water underground, and will emit silvery, tear-shaped puffs of smoke if passing over concealed springs and wells."
Personality: On the outside Philo appears cool, calm and collected but inside he is filled with anxiety, deep insecurity and is prone to over analyzing situations. He is a perfectionist in everything he sets out to accomplish. He's honest in his intentions, never malicious. Philo is ambitious, always striving to learn more and obtain more. Inside he is very sensitive but will never show it, hiding his true feelings in order to appear more strong. He's very logical, a realist with a dry sense of humor and this can often come across to people as cold and unemotional. Philo is mature for his age, wise beyond his years and considers himself a bit of a philosopher. He values loyalty, justice, intelligence and ambition.
History: Philo is one of four children born to a Squib and a muggle. Philo is the middle youngest child and was the only one of his siblings to ever show signs of being magical. His siblings resented him for being a 'freak' but both of his parents were immensely proud and encouraging when it came to him being a wizard, particularly his mother who had always wished she possessed the gift of magic, being born to a magical family she was the only one of her siblings who turned out to be a Squib. This put a heavy strain on her relationship with her family and after her eldest son was born she cut off ties with them all together and hasn't spoke to them in over a decade. Philo's father is a muggle dentist and his mother is a stay at home mom. The Greene family lives in a modest flat near London.
What He Loves: Philo has a love of History of Magic, specifically studying past wars. He is a champ at wizard's chess and enjoys reading books of anything pertaining to magic. Since he was raised muggle he finds the muggle world dreadfully boring and would much rather live amongst the wizarding community upon graduation from Hogwarts. He excels at all his subjects but has a talent for History of Magic, Astronomy, and Potions.
Family: Parents, Tom and Mary Greene. Elder brother, Peter who is 21. Elder sister, Persephone who is 17 and younger sister, Penelope (Penny) who is 11.
Extra: Philo is a muggleborn who has a unquenchable thirst for magical knowledge. Due to his siblings resentment he feels inferior and therefore has something to prove. Philo wants more than anything to achieve greatness.

A seven-year-old version of Philo sat alone at the local playground, twiddling a golden dandelion between his fingers absentmindedly. The child had a lot on his mind for strange things had began happening to him. Things he could not explain. Things that frightened him. He could do things with his mind, supernatural things and the more he experimented the more he realized how different he was from his family. Philo's mood grew increasingly more sour as his elder sibling approached him. Persephone had caught him just last week levitating the PlayStation in his room and had called him a freak and of course told Peter who hadn't believed it and said she was completely mental. Since then Persephone seemed to have made it her mission to catch him being 'weird' again and he found it hard to escape the watchful eye of his persistent sister. As Philo thought this the dandelion he had been holding burst into flames causing him to gasp in surprise and through throw the flaming flower in the grass far away from him. He sucked on his searing finger which now sported a bright, red blister as a familiar, sneering voice echoed from above him. "Ah-ha! I caught you now! Peter!" Persephone called, waving over their elder brother who was pushing Penny on the swings. "Come look! Philo is doing magic again!" Philo quickly stomped with the heel of his show on the smoldering weed, snuffing it out before his other siblings could see it but the evidence was still there, black and charred, sticking out like a sore thumb against the sea of emerald surrounding it."Lay off it." Peter groaned, coming closer with Penny in tow. "You guys are just playing tricks again."
"It's not a trick!" Persephone argued desperately. "It's real! Philo's a freak and I'm telling mummy, I'm going to show her what you've done." She threatened, snatching the scorched weed and bolting across the playground back towards their home. "No, don't!" Philo pleaded, terror gripping him. He didn't want his mother despising him like his sister. He couldn't bear it and with that desperate thought he felt the prickling sensation of his magic wash over him and staring at his retreating sister's back something strange happened. The swings rattled and broke free, metal chain links slithering on the ground like serpents chasing after his sister and snaking around her ankles to trip her. She fell hard into the grass, screaming and thrashing as the chains wound themselves around her body and constricted around her like ropes that bound her, rendering her immobile. Peter and Penny both turned to cast their brother scandalized looks, their eyes glistening in fear. "Let her go, Philo! Please!" Penny pleaded, tugging frantically at his shirt. Peter's eyes narrowed in anger, a look of betrayal on his face. "I'm telling mum." He said seriously, his tone low while grabbing Penny's small hand and running off. Philo fell to the ground, burying his face in his hands as he began to sob with Persephone's incessant wailing in the background adding to his misery. That day everything changed.
