Lydia Margaret Ayers
“Few people realize the immensity of vacancy in which the dust of the material universe swims.”
- H.G. Wells - The War of the Worlds
- H.G. Wells - The War of the Worlds
- 13 - August 9, 2008 - Straight - Single - Half-Blood
Wand: Beech and Unicorn Hair, 9 1/2 inches
Wand Wood Description: The true match for a beech wand will be very wise beyond their years and rich in understanding and experience. Beech wands perform very weakly for the narrow-minded, ignorant and intolerant. When properly placed, the beech wand is capable of a subtlety and artistry rarely seen in any other wood, hence its lustrous reputation. It is highly sought after.
Appearance: Shoulder length, dark brown hair, crystal blue eyes and fine, pale skin. Rather large nose and plump lips. Usually wears her hair down because it's so short and it slender in body type.
Personality: Lydia is extremely smart. By the age of seven, she was able to read books that her brother was reading at age ten, which is why War of the Worlds was her favorite book at such a young age. She’s also very courageous and willing to stand up for herself and others but stubborn as a bull when she wants to be. She is known to be tender towards students who seem lonely and will be the first to make friends with the ‘outcasts’. She hates seeing others being ignored and will instantly become angry if she or someone she cares about is being taken advantage of. Lydia is very social and kind. But underneath all of that is a whole other side to Lydia that is afraid of being by herself and has insecurities about not being good enough for anything or anyone. She believes that her parents blame her for what happened to her brother, therefore, she blames herself too. She avoids topics such as death because they make her queasy and she can barely stand to look at herself in the mirror because her and her brother looked so much alike.
Favorite Subjects: Transfiguration, Care of Magical Creatures
Least Favorite Subjects: Divination, History of Magic
What He/She Loves: Reading, school, and playing Quidditch
What He/She Hates: Playgrounds and being ignored.
History: Lydia's mother is muggleborn while her father is a pureblood, though he wasn’t the kind of arrogant pureblood who thought that they were better than everyone else (obviously, he married a muggle and they were extremely happy). When Lydia was seven and her brother was ten, the two were playing catch at a park near their home when a throw from Lydia went too high and over Zachary’s head. It rolled out into the road and when Zachary went to retrieve it, he was struck by a car that was moving entirely too fast. The driver slammed on their breaks, stopped for a moment and then drove away without a word. Lydia saw the whole thing. When she got to her brother’s side, he was already dead and there was nothing she could do to help him. The family was devastated, her mother went into a depression and her father became distant, always staying later at work and was hardly ever home. They isolated Lydia and hardly spoke to her for months. They still don’t interact with her much but Lydia has learned to look past that, despite how terrible it makes her feel. She thinks her parents blame her for what happened to her brother.
