Maverick hushes Albus outside of the infirmary and motions towards the dungeons. Silently they traverse the halls together, Maverick in a sling still sporting Quidditch robes and Albus lugging around the statue in pajamas. In the flickering candle light they pass the many portraits in low whispers or sleeping on divans and chairs. They descend the stairs together leading deeper into the bowels of the castle. The darkness yawns around them, swallowing their forms as they make the trek through the dungeons that drip with moisture and strange noises echo off the vaulted ceilings originating from the Black Lake.
Stopping only once to stand before the entrance to Slytherin Common Rooms, Maverick finds himself frowning in annoyance when he realizes the password has been changed and no one had decided to tell him. He let Albus speak the word that opened the way with only a grunt of irritation. As they slipped inside, Maverick was somewhat surprised to find a couple of older years grinding on each other by the green flames of the heath. Snorting in disgust, he grabs his friend by the arm and they duck away to the male's dormitory.
Entering their shared room, the third bed's curtains remains tightly closed and silent. Maverick casts a silencing charm so they wouldn't wake Archer up from slumber. Then, as the door closes behind them, he turns to the other. In the dim light ciphering in at the paneled windows with a scenery of floating algae, he smiles at Albus Potter. ”That was brilliant. I know we had an alibi, but sneaking around after hours was a bit fun.”
