Charlotte Ursa Thorne
17 - November 3rd, 2004 - Straight but open to experimentation - Single - Muggleborn
Wand: Cypress and Dragon Heartstring, 9 1/2 inches
Cypress Wand Wood: Cypress is associated with valour. Owners of this wand are witches or wizard who would come to die a heroic death. “Wands of cypress find their soul mates among the brave at heart, the bold and the self-sacrificing: those who are unafraid to confront the shadows in their own and others’ natures."
Appearance: Pale, green eyes the color of moss, fair, freckled skin and auburn hair that reaches her shoulders. When in school uniform her tie is always loosened or undone, hanging around her neck casually, her sleeves are always rolled up to her elbows and her blouse is often severely wrinkled because of this. She doesn't wear her mary janes, wearing leather, ebony, combat boots instead. They are her favorite, comfortable and practical for hiking in the woods late in the evenings. When she's not in uniform she dresses edgy, mostly in dark colors like black, maroon, dark gray and navy. 5'9, tall and slender, her legs are toned from all the hiking, walking and jogging she does. She has her mother's hair and eyes. Her mother passed away when bugulars robbed their house while Char was at Hogwarts and shot her. Her father wasn't home either, having been on a 'business trip' at the time but really, he was most likely at some seedy motel with a hired escort, having an affair.
What is their best physical feature?: Her eyes, they are almost unnaturally light, the palest shade of spring green she's at least ever seen and she loves them because when she looks into the mirror she sees something that reminds her of her mum, who she was very close to and misses dearly each and every day, still feeling bitter resentment and anger over her unjust demise.
What is their most flawed physical feature?: In her opinion her freckles, large feet due to her being slightly taller than most girls, and her relatively flat chest, leading her to take on the role of tom boy growing up. Still, Charlotte is not very feminine or graceful but she's grown into her looks and has subtle curves. Most men find her alluring due to the air of mystery surrounding her.
Personality: Wild, freedom-loving, expressive, sarcastic sense of humor, can be biting when angered, has a hot-temper and is prone to destructive behavior, courageous, daredevil, impulsive, reckless, generous, adventure-seeking, free-spirited, outgoing, alluring, sly, and damaged. She's become colder and more emotionally shut-off in the past few years, snuffing out her once radiant and bright personality. She was once like fire, alive and beautiful, now she's like dwindling embers, struggling to not lose her life, burning dull and faint, a shadow of who she once was.
Where are they from?: Birmingham England, grew up in a luxurious loft style apartment in the city, they lived in the pent house and she eventually (with much pleading with her parents) turned a tool shed on the roof into her bedroom, loving the spectacular view of the twinkling city lights and full moon.
History: Charlotte was born to a wealthy muggle father who invested in the stock market and was a successful businessman and CEO of a family owned company, working alongside his elder brother, Charles. She was born to a middle class mother who worked in the theatre career as a broadway dancer. Before she married her husband and performed high end shows in the city she was a nobody, dancing in much less respectable joints and that is where she met Char's father, Christopher, at a gentleman's club she had been performing at. A one night stand got Char's mother, Sabrina, pregnant and in order to avoid a scandal of word getting out to the press, Chris asked for her hand in marriage. They fell briefly in love but Christopher's womanizing ways that had become an addiction by that point lead him to spend most of their married life having one affair after another. Afraid of losing her husband, who she sincerely loved, afraid of losing her comfortable, lavish lifestyle and afraid of Charlotte losing that comfort as well, Sabrina stayed in the unhealthy relationship, turning a blind eye and pretending she did not know of his cheating. Though, both Sabrina and Charlotte knew, once Char became old enough to become more observant and aware, piecing two and two together on her own shortly before her mother's death at age fourteen. Her mum pleaded with her not to confront her father about it, though Char desperately wished to tell him off. Finally out of respect for her mum's wishes she stayed grudgingly silent and did not confront him until after her mum's passing, when everything finally poured out that she had been repressing for months at the funeral, literally right in front of all her family and parents coworkers, and friends. She made quite the scene and then stormed off. After Sabrina's death, wracked with guilt and his daughter openly detesting him, Christopher began taking more 'business trips' away during the summer holiday, likely vacationing in exotic, remote locations and spending away his savings on booze and women to numb the pain. Charlotte hardly ever sees her father and for this reason, of coming home to an empty house, she often stays at Hogwarts for the Christmas holiday for it's better than going home and being reminded of Christmas with her mother, sitting alone in the house she was raised in.
Parents: Christopher and Sabrina Thorne.
Siblings: None, Charlotte is an only child and was unplanned. Her elder cousin is my character, @charlie, who is Christopher's elder brother, Charles only daughter. Charlotte and Charlie have always been friends, though didn't see much of each other growing up, still Char looks up to the Auror as a role model and older sister figure. They became much closer after her mum died, Charlie was the only one in the whole family to come stay with her and help her sort out her grief, making sure she stayed out of trouble as Char was tempted to go let out her anger through vandalizing, petty stealing, booze, seedy night clubs, and drugs. She just wanted to escape the pain but Charlie did not let that last very long, pulling her out of her spiraling depression and setting her back on the right track. As of last summer Charlotte spends the summer living with Charlie in her modest, London flat and that's as close to happy as she's been in a very long time.
Is their any history of mental illness in their family?: Narcissistic men with sociopathic tendencies.
She loves: Dueling, hiking through the Forbidden Forest, night swimming in the Black Lake in the warmer months, roaming the castle at night, discovering its many secrets, riding her motorcycle through London's busy streets, parties, alcohol, and Quidditch.
She hates: Men who remind her of her father, being alone, returning to her childhood home. She avoids it at all costs.
Have they ever loved anyone in a romantic way?: No, and she's afraid she never will, becoming too cold and detached after her mum's death and realization of her father's ongoing string of affairs. She believes most men are like him and so she uses them before they can use her and then loses interest and abandons them altogether before she can get too emotionally attached, not allowing herself the opportunity to love or be loved.
What's their most traumatic memory?: When she got called out of class on that dreary day in March and the Headmistress informed her of her mother's death. From that moment on her world changed...
What's their happiest memory?: Memories when her family was still complete and whole, when she was young and naive, but most of all happy.
What would a stranger's first impression of them be?: She's sociable and fun, though has a distinct edginess to her that makes her a little mysterious and sought after by men, she looks and acts pretty badass.
How would you, the writer, describe them?: A girl struggling to hide and overcome her weaknesses, acting out and doing things she wouldn't normally do to quell the pain. She's looking for happiness in all the wrong places.
Any special magical abilities?: She's a skilled duelist and good at charmwork and Ancient Runes.
Any special skills?: She's good at playing quidditch, though she dropped out from the team after her fifth year. She is also a good street fighter, having took boxing lessons growing up, once again after much pleading with her parents.
