"And reveal Hufflepuff's greatest secret to a Slytherin?" Jem said with faux haughtiness, "I think not." But Jem was already grinning and had taken Mackenna's pale hand in her larger one, leading her out of the astronomy tower.
Like shadows, the two teens snuck through the halls unnoticed, Jem barely able to contain his chuckles. Just a day before, actually only an hour or so before, he had been walking these halls in a lost sort of state, but that sadness, that worry he had felt was gone. Of course with Mackenna, he was always sort of worrying about her, but it certainly was less now. Instead he felt relief. Relief he had found her, relief he could make her even the teeniest bit more happy, and relief she wouldn't be leaving his side anytime soon. It was the intensity of that feeling, the relief mixing with his worry that caused Jem to not release her. The Hufflepuff wasn't even to entirely aware he was still holding her hand, for if he was he would have let go remembering how she felt about touch from the early stages of their friendship.
"Now watch carefully because you really only get one shot at this." Jem told her as the two stood in front of a wall of barrels. "You don't get to restart if you mess up. Whether or not you get sprayed with vinegar . . . well I'll leave that to you to find out." He said with a wink. With practiced ease Jem rapped out the tune 'Helga Hufflepuff' on the middle barrel of the second row. The barrel vanished and a tunnel appeared behind it, small at first but soon expanding so that one could walk up right. Well most. Jem seemed to be the exception. Jem let it close though then stepped away from the barrels motioning with a long arm for Mackenna to try.
