Caleb sat at the Ravenclaw table in the Great Hall, locked in a heated conversation with a few of his buddies about their adventures over the holidays. It had been the first day of classes and a long one at that so the boys were eager to relax, enjoy their dinner and talk about what their vacation had consisted of. The friends that Caleb tended to keep were just like him, opinionated and charming, though he was often the one that the girls all fawned over. It made the others quite jealous sometimes but Caleb couldn’t help the fact that the opposite sex found him attractive. All he could do was embrace it so that’s what he did.
Just as he had embraced it at the Baxter party the other night with Tess. Their intense connection had been undeniable but he was fully aware that it was due to the fact that he was drunk and she was a bit tipsy. Still, he had had to go home that night and take care of himself because of the way the girl had made him feel. He’d nearly lost all control with her and while it satisfied him to know that he had gotten under her skin, it also annoyed him that he had allowed her to do the same. Though when he thought about the way that Tess had looked that night, he understood why it hadn’t been difficult to get caught up in her spell.
“I don’t believe that for a second, there’s no way you snogged Sally Carver,” said one of the boys and it brought Caleb’s attention back to the table and away from the redhead. “What are we talking about?” he asked, lightly tapping his knuckles against the surface of the table. Richie, his friend sitting across from Caleb pointed to the one sitting next to him, Eddy. “This twat’s saying that over the break he got it on with Sally Carver.” Caleb snorted and rolled his eyes. “I’m with Richie. Unless you can prove it, there's no way I can believe that,” he told him. Richie laughed heartily, raising his eyebrows to give the look that indicated he was about to insult somebody. “Sally’s almost as big of a prude as that snobby bitch Tess Baxter.”
Caleb’s brows shot up at the mention of Tess and he immediately wanted to kill Richie for bringing her up. The best thing about what he had done with Tess was that it would never have to be spoken about again, except that seemed nearly impossible with his closest mates casually slipping her name into the conversation. Caleb quickly checked behind his shoulder, as if waiting to see the girl standing right behind him with her arms crossed, ready to insult him at the drop of a hat. She wasn’t there but he knew she was in the room. He had watched her walk in and now Richie was speaking loud enough that the whole room could have heard what he had just said. “Let’s not bring her into this,” Caleb said, rolling his eyes and hoping that his friend didn’t suspect anything. He was sure they didn’t as they went on talking but he couldn’t stop his eyes from continually wondering to the Slytherin table.
They got up to leave a few minutes later and Caleb followed behind his friends as they were still bickering about who they had all hooked up with before. Caleb knew he would beat them out in any competition in that category but he wasn’t one to kiss and tell. Plus, he wasn’t obligated to prove anything to them. He dawdled behind them, going through the mental list of homework that he had to do in his head when a hand grabbed him by the arm and pulled him to the side. He nearly fell over as he stumbled to catch himself and when he looked up at the culprit, his eyes narrowed. “What the hell do you want, Baxter?” he seethed at the redhead. She was the last person he had expected to see.
