Summer's a Bummer, as Dull as Can Be... or is it?

Olivia was quite thankful for Rodina pressing more in front of her, the older girl seeming to sense her discomfort. It made her feel a little bit safer, squished up halfway between her friend and the wall instead of directly next to her now. Of course, neither of them was very big and there was absolutely nothing to really be afraid of, since the potential danger was just this new other girl having abandoned her own group. As Rodina spoke, Olivia stared at Quinn, peeking over Rodina’s shoulder, rabbit buried tightly between the two girls at this point. It was hard to completely tell in the dimness of the night. Her hair was quite dark, but it would be hard to tell if it was brown like Olivia’s or a deeper shade. It really could have been anywhere on the brunette scale or even black. She definitely wasn’t blonde like Rodina nor was she a redhead, as both would have been obvious in the starlight. Olivia couldn’t tell what color her eyes were, but they definitely were not light like hers and Rodina’s, so probably blue or brown or green instead of grey.
Rodina introduced both of them, as she had yesterday during their group ‘get to know you’ circle. She didn’t even ask beforehand this time, just going for it, sending little fuzzies of happiness spiraling through Olivia. It still astounded her, how very well Rodina seemed to understand her. Olivia was positive it was nothing short of some kind of some miracle, finally having someone around to be her voice when others didn’t understand her body language, especially in situations like this. Olivia was not opposed to meeting new potential friends, but she was quite unsure anyone would ever be so wonderful as Rodina was. So far, the blonde had accepted every single one of Olivia’s little quirks, from the rabbit carrying, to the not speaking, nighttime thumb sucking, and bloody murder screaming. She highly doubted there would be anyone else willing to deal with such things in the same kind of stride Rodina seemed to. The older girl simply treated her as normal as everyone else, holding her hand and not questioning any of the strange things Olivia did.
The two bolder girls shook hands, Olivia’s eyes wide and unblinking as she gazed at the stranger, listening to her explanation of how she had found the pair. Of course, being in a tree would have given her an advantage over the people on the ground. It wasn’t until Quinn laughed though, that Olivia blinked, deciding, that this girl seemed nice and perhaps she might grow to like her if they spent more time around one another. So long as Rodina was there too of course. And there was something odd about the stranger as well… Her name. Olivia had never heard of anyone called Quintessence before. It was quite unique and Olivia wondered where it might have originated. She was always curious about those types of things or rather, to be more specific, everything in general. Despite not speaking, her mind constantly craved new information, even if it was something as simple as how many spots lady bugs had.
As she was lost in thought, wondering about Quinn’s name, Olivia barely noticed as the other girl pushed the rest of the way through the bushes and squished up against her, pressing her even more firmly into Rodina. The space was very small, barely able to contain the three of them. If they had been even remotely a little bit bigger, it probably wouldn’t have worked and they’d have gone tumbling out of the space and into the bushes. Olivia scooted slightly, away from Quinn, apprehensive about the sudden closeness. She was wary of her, the same way she’d been nervous around Rodina at first. Quinn seemed very nice so far, but one could never be too careful.
The squishiness let up a little, as Quinn moved slightly away from her. Olivia turned her head, staring at her blankly for a few moments before the corners of her mouth twitched upward into a very small, soft smile. She lifted her rabbit, raised one of his paws. She closed her eyes for a moment, building her confidence, feeling the steady pace of Rodina’s heart beating and the way her chest rose and fell. It gave her the reassurance she needed before she held out her rabbit, one little knit arm extended the same way one might offer a hand for shaking. It was similar to the way she’d first greeted Rodina, too shy to actually shake herself, but her rabbit could do it. He was braver than her.
