Summer's a Bummer, as Dull as Can Be... or is it?

Olivia was not happy. First, she had been forced to pack all of her summer clothes into a dingy little suitcase against her better judgment. Then, she had only be allowed to add two books and then only one, one! Of her favorite snuggly big sweaters that she could hide in like a turtle in its shell. She had made her displeasure known though, by stomping her little black shoes across the wooden floor of the girls' dormitory. She had received nothing in return except for a stern glare before having to be practically dragged downstairs to join the other children who were supposedly lucky enough to have been chosen to go away for camp this summer. Olivia did not want to go though. It wasn't even supposed to be her turn! Alas, little Hattie Millings had come down with some kind of fierce summer cold and had to be kept at the children's home instead. Olivia was going, not because she had earned it or anything, but rather, her name was next on the list and it would be nice to be rid of her for a while. It wasn’t that she was a bad child, no, she was just… a bit of an odd duck. She tended to make the younger children nervous with her strange, staring eyes and silent mouth, never speaking but rather, choosing to display only extreme emotions anger when it suited her. Otherwise, she kept to herself, usually tucked away in a wardrobe or a kitchen cabinet, having soundless conversations with that stuffed rabbit she carried around despite being much too old to take it everywhere.
The children had been loaded into a van, quite early enough in the morning that most of them fell asleep, and taken away from the streets of Stockwell, further into London to catch a train from the station. Olivia had a bit of difficulty keeping up during this part, her small stature combined with having one hand wrapped around the handle of her suitcase, her other arm occupied with clutching around her toy rabbit as it usually was. They’d made good time though, boarded the train, and been taken away, riding further and further away from the city until the landscape had turned quite green and full of trees. The station they finally got off the train at was small, but lively, a bus waiting to take them along, deeper into the trees, past a huge lake, until they had finally arrived. T-shirts and name tags had been passed out, plastered onto their fronts to make getting to know their fellow campers easier.
Olivia stood, quite defeated as she pulled the light purple shirt over her head and sweater, indicating that she was to be in the Lilac Crew. She was shuffled off to the side, to other children with purple shirts, all of them girls, while the rest of the children from her home were given shirts of other various parts of the rainbow. She sighed, looking down at her feet and clutching her rabbit closer to her chest with both arms, waiting as the teenager in charge of their group started pairing them up, one older girl with one younger girl. The bright teenage girl beamed, pointing.
”Rodina Aileas McKendric, you’ll be with Olivia Bonnet. Alice Fellows, with Maria Jacobs…”
