”The muffins won’t be gone if we’re not there in two seconds, Lys!” Lily laughed, but allowed herself to be dragged along instead, by one of her three very best mates in the entire world. The fact that Lysander had a stash of muffins in his dorm did not matter in the least bit on Muffin Saturdays, for there was nothing quite like the warmth of the delicious baked good fresh from the oven. Even Lily had to admit, the muffins were much better in the Great Hall on the weekends than they were coming from wherever Lysander kept them hidden. They did not have many secrets between them, but even Lorcan did not know of the secret location for his twin’s muffin hoard. The male Hufflepuff was so impossibly obsessed with muffins it would probably have appeared to be an addiction by any outside source. However, as one who spent most of her life with Lysander Scamander, Lily wasn’t the least bit worried. The boy had been eating muffins for years and it was normal. It wasn’t like they were all he ate after all. Just… occasionally he’d binge. Typically he only went through three muffins a day, except on Saturdays. Saturdays were for muffins.
Sneakers slapping against stone, the two fourth year Hufflepuff reached the Great Hall, although, it was still fairly early for the large tide of students that typically would have been flowing around this time during the week. Most preferred to do what normal teenagers did and sleep in, but not Lily and certainly not Lysander who was sunshine reincarnated. Long red hair flowing out behind her, the smaller of the pair tried her best to keep up, struggling a bit with the sheer amount of height the boy had gotten over the summer alone. Lily had always been long limbed and willowy, but there was no proper keeping up with someone that much taller than yourself. Upon reaching the Hufflepuff table, they located the nearest basket of fresh muffins, and settled themselves, not on the benches, but rather, right upon the table, feet resting where their butts were typically supposed to go. Lily watched as her friend took up the basket in his lap, set a few muffins aside for her and dug in.
Smiling, the redhead turned slightly, reaching out to grab up a handful of purple grapes from a bowl. She popped one into her mouth, enjoying the way it crunched between her teeth right before her eyes began scanning the room, searching. They fell on the Ravenclaw table first, locking directly on to a blond head of hair identical to Lysander’s, before moving a bit further… finding tousled brown instead. She felt her heart beat pick up.
”Hey, Lorcan!” Lysander’s voice made Lily jump as he called out to his brother, his mouth partially full of muffin. She glanced back at the Ravenclaw table, only to find that brown haired head turning in their direction. A bright grin spread across an impossibly handsome face and the lad rose, his fifteen year old body long and lanky, but strongly muscled from the his rigorous training as a Beater. He’d only made second-string last year, but had high hopes to make the first string this year, or so he’d told Lily through the letters they had exchanged over the last bit of summer. They had only been back at school a full week now, but she was still as intrigued by him as she had been when she’d first met him at Johiah’s party over the summer.
Robert Schmutbag (an unfortunate last name for someone so handsome, Lily thought), Ravenclaw, fifth year, upper-class pureblooded, absolutely dashing, charming, and wonderful. The boy had struck through Lily’s barely fourteen-year-old heart like a sharp arrow through a dove. There was no avoiding it. She still had a little bit of a thing for Johiah, though, she was definitely positive she wasn’t gay as she’d previously thought. No. Meeting Robert had proved that to her, though she was still unsure as to whether a person was allowed to like both. Perhaps she should ask Johiah, the slightly older fourth year always knew the answers to things like this. However, Lily was a little bit distracted from her thought process as Robert made his way over.
The boy joined them, climbing to sit beside Lily and reaching out to flick at her long hair, leaning forward to look at her face. ”Hey there, LilyPotter.”[/b] He said her name, all one word. He’d never actually called her just plain Lily, and at first it had made the redhead feel a bit weird, but the way he said it… So sure and friendly… Well, it’d grown on her. Typically she didn’t like it when anyone used her last name for the most part, at least not in the wizarding world. It tended to draw looks and unwanted attention, questions about if she was of those Potters, which, considering there was only one Potter family Lily knew of in all of Great Britain who also happened to be part of the wizarding community, it was kind of dumb to ask in the first place.
”Hi R-” Lily was cut off, her green eyes moving quickly from the boy’s stunning blue eyes to the small Gryffindor just across the way whose voice had risen considerably. Lily stared, as her best mate and first girl crush, Joey standing down in front of a Slytherin boy. Julien. Johiah’s brother. Oh dear… This did not look good. Turning her head, Lily looked at Lysander quickly and he shook his head. No, they shouldn’t get involved just yet. Joey could hold her own against her brother, if she needed them, then they would step in.
