”That's a bit of a double entendre, Sophia. Is there something you're not telling me?” Ember teased lightly, though her heart ached a bit with the knowledge that her friend would never swing that way, and laughed, her head falling back as she squeezed Sophia tighter to her for a moment before releasing her. Her voice was cut off though, as the water went straight into her face as she blinked, coughing as it hit her throat, momentarily put on pause. And then she was moving backwards, a bit further away from the Hufflepuff, but only to raise one hand and skim it hard against the surface of the water, twirling slightly as she went. A small wave, most of it droplets, spewed upwards at Sophia and then she dunked herself, hiding under the water and pressing through it with ease before coming up a distance away. She grinned, her eyes a bit distracted by the lovely way Sophia's shirt was now clinging onto her. The fact that the shirt was her favorite color was completely bypassed by the body underneath it, which, while thin, was absolutely gorgeous to the Gryffindor simply because of who it belonged to. She opened her mouth, about to say something, but was promptly interrupted as Piper called out from closer to the shore.
”Emmi, I'm c-cold.” The little boy stood there, shivering in knee deep water. With the sun going down, it was no longer heating the world as much and the temperature had begun to drop, slowly, but noticeable when you were a very wet small child. Ember sighed, her smile only dropping for a moment before she looked apologetically at Sophia.
”Sorry, Mouse. Ready to head back? It's going to get dark out soon anyway.” The Gryffindor headed for shore, her strong legs moving with ease through the water until she reached the group of littles. The other two were older and still playing, not as wet as Piper who Ember scooped up when she reached him. He was light, a tiny four years old, his skin cool against her own as he snuggled against her shoulder, a thumb slipping into his mouth with ease. He let her carry him over to a small shed nearby, the door propped open, full of beach toys, balls, and other outdoor games, as well as an entire small wall of shelves with towels. She grabbed one, draping it over her small cousin, rubbing at his back and bundling him up a bit before she grabbed another one. She carried it out, back down along the shoreline and held it out to Sophia, a gentle smile on her face now, calmer somehow with Piper on her hip. He was starting to be a little warmer against her with the towel keeping in his body heat. ”Oy! You two, time to head home.”
The other pair of kids grumbled but did as they were told, half caked with mud that they rinsed off in the water before pushing at each other and dashing to the shed to get towels of their own. A breeze blew and Ember shivered, also kind of getting cold now that she was out of the water, and once again, soaking wet. She turned and was about to ask Sophia if she wanted to come back down and swim some more maybe tomorrow, when a very brown haired woman came out of the wooded path. Piper scrambled a bit and Ember released him, letting his bare feet hit the sand as he clung to his towel and took off in his mother's direction. She catch him up and waved, the other two children taking off after them in a hurry, towels billowing out behind them like capes.
”C'mon, my love.” Ember smiled, holding out one freckled hand to the Hufflepuff, her eyes looking nervously down at her feet for a moment. ”I dunno about you, but I'm kind of sleepy now...” She admitted sheepishly, her cheeks going a bit red. They had gotten up quite early that morning to start home from the festival and Ember had spent the better part of the car ride hung over and puking into several paper bags, not due to the alcohol consumed the night before, but to the car sickness they'd discovered she was prone to on the way to the festival in the first place. It was kind of ironic in a way, for her to be so alright on a broomstick, but half an hour in a car and she was done for until they stopped moving and she regained control of her stomach. She had spent the trip back to Eveleen's apartment in the backseat, her head in Sophia's lap, attempting to overcome the nausea in her stomach. She had been fine once they had gotten back to Eveleen's and been bidding her goodbye outside for a little bit, but the Gryffindor was quite worn out now. ”We could have tea or cocoa or something if you want...”
