Cohen saw the shift in Dominique's features as they attempted to regroup, and wondered what spell had been cast on her. She wasn't dead, and there were no physical signs showing she was in pain. Cohen exchanged a look with Ramona, silently asking her what could have happened. His respect for his fellow Gryffindor had soared as Cohen had watched her fight. She'd been so fluid and determined, he would never have expected Ramona to be capable of such a duel.
He heard the order fly from the dark wizards mouth as he was watching Ramona, and the familiar cry from Dominique. Assuming his friend was cursing the wizard he turned just in time to see the jet of sparks fly at him. Cohen dove to the side, and felt the hex brush past him before slamming into the woods, sending shards into the air. "Dom! What are you doing?" He shouted, eyes wide, but Dominique wasn't listening. "Incarcerous!" She screeched, and the boy quickly raised his own wand, "Protego," he returned, and the blue shield shot up in front of him, blocking her spell.
Ramona was fighting near them, but he couldn't pay her any attention without giving his opponent a chance to attack. Cohen was completely aware that Dom was a genius, and her knowledge of spells far outreached his. "Dom please," he begged, "It's me, Cohen, your bloody best friend!...I don't want to fight you." He didn't sound gentle, but he hoped she would hear him. He waved his wand at his Ravenclaw companion, "Petrificus Totalus!" He cast, hoping that if she stopped moving he could break her from the spell. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her, but it was more important that she didn't harm him, for her sake. He knew Dominique, and if Cohen was injured because of her, despite it being out of her control, she would let it torture her for the rest of her life.
