Anything for the Alcohol

Kaiden felt Harper begin to shift on his back and slightly tightened his grip on her legs, though he knew if she ended up moving too much he wouldn’t be able to hold her. It wasn’t that she was particularly heavy really, though, there was the difference between carrying a still sack of potatoes and one with an angry badger inside of it. You were more likely to drop the one that squirmed. Kaiden hoped Harper would stop moving or at least wake up enough to acknowledge that she was able to be set down upon her own two feet. However, Kaiden had not lucked into that type of booze buddy. No, he had to get stuck with this crazy ass chick and her big mouth… and apparently, a lack of sense. And yet, she hadn’t backed down when they had been confronted by those two asshats in the alley. She had acted quickly and with such a fearless air, Kaiden had to admit, he was impressed, a little bit. A miniscule amount that would probably fade by morning.
The weight on his back suddenly changed, moving in the opposite direction, and Kaiden stumbled. Having not expected Harper to suddenly head backwards, his upper body was pulled with her rapidly, sending him completely off balance. His arms tightened around her legs automatically, but she’d jerked too quickly. The momentum of her body being pulled on by gravity was greater than the force his arms could exert in the split second it took for her to be on his back and then, hitting the cement hard as his arms lost their grip, letting her legs slip free. The boy spun around quickly once he’d regained his balance and stared down at his fellow Gryffindor, wondering why the hell she would purposely flop herself onto the ground like that. People sure were odd things, especially the female ones, and while he too, was a person, Kaiden didn’t think he would ever be able to properly fathom the things others did that just seemed so stupid.
Kaiden watched as Harper finally rose to her feet after letting out a phrase that fit the situation so perfectly he almost laughed… had he been one for laughing that is. He shook his head, shoving his thumbs into his front pockets and not bothering to try and help her up when it was her own damn fault she’d ended up on the ground again. ”What the fuck, indeed.” He stated simply, having given up on staying silent for now. Normally he would have never said anything, but the situation seemed to warrant it somehow. Harper was moving fast again though, figuring out where they were and grabbing hold of him, heading back in the direction they had just come from.
”Everything around here looks the same. How the fuck am I supposed to know where your damn house is?” Kaiden asked angrily, glaring at her. However, the situation was quickly becoming more trouble than it was worth, even if they had procured enough booze to last a good while. If Harper’s mother caught them, they would be in some serious shit with the school and he’d probably get a letter sent home, if you could call it that, and they’d put even more restrictions on him when he got back for the summer. He already had an early as hell curfew and got loaded down with the worst of the chores for acting out. How was he supposed to get a summer time job if he was already laden down with so many things to do he couldn’t work more than a few hours at a time? The gravity of the situation hitting him harder now, Kaiden broke free of Harper’s hold. He reached down and grabbed hold of her wrist, his longer legs faster, able to propel them both forward, his larger size maneuvering more quickly through the people crowding the sidewalk. Last he checked, he’d shot up another inch, had yet to stop growing, and without his parents’ medical histories, there was no telling where he’d top off at.
Turning his head, Kaiden glanced back at Harper, his eyes flashing for a second before he found her face. It was slightly flushed and her hair was not nearly as neat as it had been earlier that night… As much as he wanted to hate her right then, he couldn’t. It was an odd thing, but knowing she didn’t want to get in trouble any more than he did gave them something in common that he couldn’t shake. He still didn‘t like her, but the utter loathing he‘d felt earlier was gone.
Kaiden dug into his pocket, extracting the old flip cell phone he was required to have on him at all times when he wasn’t at school. It was such an ingrained habit, that it still ended up in his pocket every morning and on his night stand every night. It didn‘t work at school, but it would be just fine out here in the muggle world. He flicked it open, feet still pounding down the sidewalk as he pressed the power button. The phone flared to life and he extended his other hand backwards. ”Here. Do you know your home number? Call your brother, have him call your mum and stall her by asking her to pick up something silly, like… say you guys are out of milk or he needs stomach medicine or some shit. If she‘s beaten us and answers, just hang up and she won‘t recognize the number.”
